It would take just about forever to list all the great activities that are available in the Taupo area.
At the Caboose, we have a tour desk with many brochures available for our guests. We are always happy to help you out if you are looking for a suitable trip or tour to go on. And to give you a bit of a taste, here are a few fantastic options...
Fishing: In a country that is world famous for trout fishing, the Lake Taupo region is the best of the best. The trout here are huge; legendary for their size, condition and attitude. If you enjoy fishing, you will surely love it here! You can go out by yourself and pick a nice spot or choose from the many skippered boat charters that are available.
Fishing Cont. Southern Lake Taupo's Tongariro River offers some of the world's finest rainbow trout fishing and brown trout angling. You can fish alone or hire an experienced guide. At the National Trout Centre beside the Tongariro, an under river viewing room lets you get a trout's-eye view of the action. Some of the local guides who operate charter boats on the Lake actually guarantee you'll catch a trout.
Geothermal: Tongariro World Heritage National Park contains three magnificent volcanoes - Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe. You can drive right around them on the famous Volcanic Loop Highway or see them from above on a breathtaking scenic flight. Other interesting geothermal attractions in the region are: The Wairakei Terraces, the hidden valley of Orakei Korako, the Craters of the Moon, and the Taupo Hot Springs Spa.
Adventure: Taupo is also well known in New Zealand and abroad for the fantastic range of action activities. Some are relatively gentle, like horse trekking, cycling and yachting, but if you're looking for some real adrenaline-pumping action and extreme sports, Taupo will definitely not disappoint you either.
Adventure Cont. You can throw yourself from bungy towers, raft down white water rapids, skydive, try 4X4 motor biking or mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking or why not test your fear of heights at an exhilarating high ropes course. And in winter, Taupo is a Mecca for winter sports enthusiasts. There is something to enjoy for absolutely everyone, at any time of the year.
